Ohio State rolled over other top run defenses. Can Penn State stop the Buckeyes?


COLUMBUS, Ohio – Inside Ohio State football’s 56-21 victory over Rutgers hid a small defensive victory for the Scarlet Knights. Rutgers became the first opponent to hold the Buckeyes to fewer yards per carry than it usually allows — barely. The Scarlet Knights went into last Saturday’s game allowing 5.01 yards per carry. Ohio State managed only 4.93. That was a hollow triumph, especially when considering OSU leading rusher J.K. Dobbins did not play in the second half. But in each the first nine games, the Buckeyes beat the opponents’ yards allowed per carry by at least 1.09 yards per game. Resuming that trend will help determine whether Ohio State remains undefeated. Penn State comes to Ohio Stadium on Saturday holding opponents to 2.19 yards per attempt — lowest in the nation. OSU coach Ryan Day called Nittany Lions linebacker Micah Parsons “as talented as there is in the conference.”…
