COLUMBUS, Ohio — There’s an important idea to keep in mind while assessing Saturday’s showdown between Ohio State and Penn State — the Nittany Lions probably should be on a three-game winning streak in the series. Or maybe on a two-game winning streak, because it’s possible Ohio State should have won in 2016 when the Nittany Lions upset the Buckeyes on a blocked field goal. What actually happened is: • In 2016, Ohio State led 21-7 entering the fourth quarter. Penn State cut that lead to 21-17 with 9:33 to play, then blocked a field goal with 4:27 to play and returned it 60 yards for the go-ahead touchdown to win 24-21. • In 2017, Penn State led 35-20 entering the fourth quarter.
