COLUMBUS, Ohio — Alabama’s hope for a playoff spot may have vanished with the season-ending injury to quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. Some may argue that the Tide could hope for the same backup QB bump that Ohio State got with Cardale Jones. If Mac Jones proves against Auburn in the last week of the regular season that Alabama is just as dangerous with him — the way Jones did in Ohio State’s 59-0 Big Ten Championship Game win over Wisconsin in 2014 … well, maybe. Actually, no. The Buckeyes were a one-loss team with a backup QB and a conference title. Alabama is going to be, at best, a one-loss team with a backup QB, no conference title and few impressive wins. So the Tide, the No. 4 team in my playoff prediction last week, is out for good in my mind. On then to the matchups in our third version…
