Ohio State football coach Ryan Day saw both small mistakes and the big picture at Rutgers


PISCATAWAY, N.J. — Ohio State football coach Ryan Day could have used his team’s handful of sloppy moments Saturday as the trigger for hyperbolic fire-and-brimstone sermonizing. The No. 2 Buckeyes’ 56-21 victory over Rutgers matched the most points they have allowed this season. A special teams turnover directly led to the first touchdown OSU has allowed in the first quarter. The Scarlet Knights moved the ball in the second half against OSU’s second and third string, scored a couple of big-play touchdowns and stuffed the Buckeyes’ first-string offense on a goal-line stand. While Day saw correctable mistakes, he also saw the big picture.
