Ohio State football beats Rutgers, but doesn’t make a run at a 69-year-old record


PISCATAWAY, N.J. — Sixty-nine years ago, the blowout came with a warning on the day Ohio State football dropped 83 points on the Iowa Hawkeyes. “Iowa plays Ohio minus two stars,” read the headline in The Plain Dealer on the morning of Oct. 28, 1950. Not good for the Hawkeyes. The story from John Dietrich ended this way. “The Ohio squad is in its best condition physically this season.” Uhh, yeah. The Buckeyes were certainly that then, just like they are now. I’m writing these words before Ohio State’s 56-21 win over Rutgers on Saturday (I went back and filled in the score, I didn’t miraculously guess it. You’ve seen how accurate my predictions have been.) It’s pregame, and I currently have every expectation that the Buckeyes could be on the cusp of history.
