How Ohio State football changed up its starting defense at Rutgers


PISCATAWAY, N.J. — Ohio State football put two young first-time defensive starters on the field to begin Saturday’s game against Rutgers. Sevyn Banks started at cornerback in place of senior Damon Arnette, who had started the first nine games but has also worn an arm cast throughout the season. Banks, a sophomore, had recorded seven tackles and an interception while playing in all nine games off the bench. Redshirt freshman Javonte Jean-Baptiste started at defensive end, along with sophomore Tyler Friday. Both are New Jersey natives getting a chance to start in their home state. Jean-Baptiste had 14 tackles and 1.5 sacks over the first nine games. Friday and Jean-Baptiste started in place of usual starters Chase Young (suspension) and Jonathon Cooper (injury).
