COLUMBUS, Ohio — I would stop short of saying Ohio State football and Chase Young came out 100% unscathed in the defensive end’s NCAA eligibility issue. Young’s historic Heisman Trophy candidacy — which was as hot as any in the country after the last game he played — almost certainly has no legs. Regardless of the findings of fact in this case — and those concrete details have not yet been established — the whiff of NCAA impropriety will turn off enough voters in a process already biased against defensive players. No matter how much blame one puts on Young for this infraction, that’s unfortunate for him, unfortunate for Ohio State and unfortunate for college football.
