COLUMBUS, Ohio – As many predicted, LSU overtook Ohio State for the No. 1 spot in the season’s second College Football Playoff rankings. What many did not expect was that the Tigers’ win in Austin, Texas, way back on Sept. 7 may have been as significant as last weekend’s victory in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. College Football Playoff committee chair Rob Mullens said on more than one occasion Tuesday night that LSU’s win over Alabama alone was not a springboard to the No. 1 spot. That victory resonated with the committee because it gave the Tigers four wins over teams in the CFP top 20 — No. 11 Florida, No. 12 Auburn and No. 19 Texas.
