COLUMBUS, Ohio — Some will search for meaning in the emphatic nature of No. 3 Ohio State’s 73-14 obliteration of Maryland at Ohio Stadium on Saturday. It is, however, a stretch to say the margin of victory exemplifies how the Buckeyes dealt with their first true adversity of the season — star defensive end Chase Young’s absence in the midst of an NCAA eligibility inquiry. Ohio State never needed Young to cover a 42.5-point spread which should embarrass both the Terrapins and the Big Ten Conference. Leaving no doubt about a game in which the outcome was never in doubt does not extinguish doubts about what the Buckeyes will do until Young returns. As of Saturday, the length of his time away from the team remains unknown.
