COLUMBUS, Ohio — Through five years of the College Football Playoff, the selection process for the postseason has worked pretty well, except for one team. The Ohio State Buckeyes, time and again, have broken the playoff. Ranked No. 1 by the College Football Playoff committee this week, the Buckeyes finding themselves at the top of the rankings during the season is new territory. They’ve typically made it much more difficult on the 13 members tasked with picking four teams for a playoff. When I attended the mock playoff committee exercise outside Dallas at the beginning of October, I came away less sure of the process than ever.
