COLUMBUS, Ohio — When Lejond Cavazos of IMG Academy (Fla.) initially committed to Ohio State football in June of 2018, he did so with the idea that he’d be playing for Urban Meyer and Taver Johnson. His father, C.J., had a 30-year friendship with Meyer that made the decision to commit an easy one. It was a childhood dream to play for the legendary coach. Add that to the relationship he’d built with Johnson during the process, and it would be challenging for any other team to convince him to go elsewhere. “Playing for him knowing that I’ve known him my whole life,” Cavazos told cleveland.com of his relationship with Meyer. “No other school had a shot with me when he was the head coach.” A lot has changed since then.
