COLUMBUS, Ohio – In the span of an instant — a twist, a pop, a stab of pain in his ankle — Ohio State’s Justin Hilliard feared his football career might be over. The linebacker from Cincinnati believed he was playing the best football of his life during spring camp. Then he tore an Achilles tendon, requiring surgery in late March. The recovery time for such injuries — which can extend up to a year — threatened his fifth and final college season. He and Ohio State physical therapist Adam Stewart came up with a plan designed to get Hilliard back on the field in six months.
