Ohio State's Justin Fields Yet to Face Late-Game Adversity


There are some things you simply cannot know as a football coach until they are revealed, because the signs pointing to a seemingly obvious answer can still prove treacherous. Wisconsin found that out Saturday at Illinois, where in possession of a 23-21 lead with 2:32 left the signs told head coach Paul Chryst a big, fat, soon-to-be-costly lie. Facing third-and-five, Chryst believed quarterback Jack Coan could get the requisite yardage to run out the clock with a short throw to tight end Jake Ferguson, the Wisconsin quarterback’s favorite receiver and the recipient of a touchdown pass earlier that day. Why not hand the football to tailback Jonathan Taylor, the guy with more than 5,000 career rushing yards, and ride the Badgers’ bread and butter behind its behemoths on the offensive line?
