Ohio State beats Northwestern, highlights six years of evolution by the Buckeyes


EVANSTON, Illinois — Ohio State arrived at Ryan Field as a national power with a fairly new coach who still hadn’t lost while running the Buckeyes. Northwestern embraced the opportunity and fought for four quarters to show it belonged. That was six years ago, when the Buckeyes visited the Wildcats on Oct. 5, 2013, for a primetime battle billed as the biggest game in Northwestern history. ESPN GameDay set up in Evanston, and Urban Meyer led the Buckeyes onto the field with a 17-0 record at Ohio State. Carlos Hyde returned from a suspension that night and cried tears of appreciation and joy, as Ohio State showed off a power run game combo with Hyde and Braxton Miller that fit what Meyer wanted to do.
