Back-to-back lopsided losses show Michigan State doesn’t stack up against Big Ten powers


MADISON, Wis. – Before Michigan State even started spring practice, it was easy to look at the schedule and circle a crucial stretch. Back-to-back games at Ohio State and Wisconsin loomed to start October, before a bye and home date against Penn State. It was a chunk of the schedule that would determine whether the Spartans would contend for a Big Ten title and, prior to facing the Buckeyes, coach Mark Dantonio said it was a chance to “measure up.” Now two-thirds of the way through that stretch it’s clear Michigan State doesn’t stack up against two of the teams in the conference.
