COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State football has convinced me, at least for one week, that it deserves the top spot on my Associated Press Top 25 ballot. Such decisions cannot be about “eye test” alone. I only see one team play every down of every game, and that is the Buckeyes. Any comparison I make to other teams is therefore skewed. So we go to the analytics, which increasingly insist that there may not be a more complete team in college football right now. Ohio State and Alabama are the top two teams in the Sagarin ratings. Football Outsiders has not updated its FEI rating as of the polls closing, but the Crimson Tide and Buckeyes were 1-2 there, as well, by a pretty wide margin.
