Former Ohio State kicker Mike Nugent returns to the NFL: Buckeye Breakfast


COLUMBUS, Ohio — Former Ohio State kicker Mike Nugent has signed a deal with the New England Patriots, replacing Stephen Gostkowski. Gostkowski was placed on the season-ending injured reserve list after having hip surgery. Nugent hasn’t kicked a field goal in an NFL game since Sept. 10 when he was a member of the Oakland Raiders. In 164 career games, he’s made 253-of-311 field goals and 363-of-377 extra-point attempts. This will be his eighth NFL team, including time with the New York Jets, Arizona Cardinals, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Cincinnati Bengals, Chicago Bears and Dallas Cowboys. He was a part of Jim Tressel’s first recruiting class as Ohio State’s head coach in 2001. He would end his college career with 72 made field goals, including a school-record 24-straight in 2002.
