Ohio State names Justin Fields as starting quarterback for season opener against Florida Atlantic

USA TODAY COLUMBUS – Former Georgia quarterback Justin Fields, who transferred to Ohio State earlier this year, has been named the Buckeyes’ starter. “Justin kind of separated himself this week,” said Ohio State coach Ryan Day said of the competition between Fields and Kentucky transfer Gunner Hoak. Day said all the decision announced Monday means is Fields will take the first snap in the opener on Aug. 31 against Florida Atlantic. “Where it goes from there we will see,” Day said. While saying Field has made progress since arriving for spring practice, Day said Fields isn’t yet where he needs to be.
