COLUMBUS, Ohio – For the sake of competition and courtesy, Ohio State football coach Ryan Day kept his quarterback competition open through the first two weeks of preseason camp. Any serious speculation ended shortly after the NCAA granted Georgia transfer Justin Fields immediate eligibility in February. And Day made the decision official at his Monday press conference at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center. Fields, a dual-threat quarterback ranked No. 2 overall in the 24/7 Sports composite for the 2018 class, will start the Buckeyes’ Aug. 31 season opener at home against Florida Atlantic.
