COLUMBUS, Ohio — When Ohio State takes on Cincinnati on Saturday, Sept. 7 it will provide an opportunity for L’Christian “Blue” Smith to see his former teammates. Now that he’s been approved for immediate eligibility at Cincinnati he’ll get to chance to challenge them on the field as well. Smith is the third former Buckeye to be granted immediate eligibility after transferring from Columbus. Quarterback Tate Martell, who transferred to Miami, and linebacker Keandre Jones, who left for Maryland, will also play this season. Quarterback Matthew Baldwin is the only scholarship player to transfer from Ohio State this offseason to not be granted the waiver. Smith saw action in three 2017 games — Tulane, Nebraska and Michigan — in his only season at OSU before ultimately redshirting. He didn’t register any stats for the 2018 season.
