A small area for concern a few weeks ago has morphed into a full blown problem for the Gophers women’s basketball team as a once-promising season continues to go off the rails. Simply put, when opposing team’s ratchet up their defense down the stretch, the Gophers struggle to score, with Monday’s 65-55 loss to Ohio State at Williams Arena serving as the latest example. On this particular night, the Gophers watched helplessly, and hopelessly, as a lead slipped away down the stretch. After nailing a jumper about 40 seconds into the final frame, the Gophers stood idly by as the Buckeyes put the game away with a 16-0 run that spanned more than six minutes. For the game, the Gophers (13-7, 2-7 Big Ten) shot a woeful 30 percent from the floor with Destiny Pitts and Taiye Bello serving as the lone bright spots, finishing with 19 points and 12 points, respectively.…
