Day makes first coaching staff at Ohio State official

It has been known for awhile, but it was made it official on Wednesday. That would be head coach Ryan Day’s first coaching staff that he has assembled at Ohio State. One of Day’s most-notable hires from outside the program was passing game coordinator/quarterbacks coach Mike Yurcich, who spent the previous five seasons as the offensive coordinator/QB coach at Oklahoma State. Yurcich is the only new member of the Buckeyes’ offensive staff. Day nearly made a complete overhaul of the defensive coaching staff, retaining only defensive line coach Larry Johnson (who also received the title of associate head coach). The new hires on defense included co-defensive coordinator/secondary coach Jeff Hafley, co-defensive coordinator Greg Mattison, and linebackers coach Al Washington.  Matt Barnes will serve as special teams coordinator/assistant secondary coach.
