Ohio State's leaders — the players — shine without Urban Meyer vs. Oregon State

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State’s Nick Bosa lounged back in his seat in the Woody Hayes Athletic Center on Tuesday and let his thoughts wander into the one place that’s always a constant topic of conversation in Columbus ahead of the first week of the season. “There’s no reason we shouldn’t win a national championship,” Bosa deadpanned. “I don’t know why we wouldn’t be playing for one.” That Tuesday was the players’ first chance to speak off the field — and questions were confined to football-only matters — in the aftermath of receivers coach Zach Smith’s firing on July 23 and a three-game suspension levied against coach Urban Meyer. The latter event, on Aug. 22, was just the latest of nonstop, tabloid-like drama that circled around the football program in July and August.
