Oregon State football overmatched in opener at Ohio State: Live updates recap

The Jonathan Smith era of Oregon State Beavers football began with a 77-31 blowout loss to the No. 5 Ohio State Buckeyes on Saturday, but there were some positive signs for the Beavers despite the lopsided result in Columbus, Ohio. Running back Artavis Pierce broke off two long touchdown runs of 80 and 78 yards. Trevon Bradford caught six passes for 104 yards and two touchdowns. The offense found intermittent success overall, finishing with 392 yards. Beavers starting quarterback Jake Luton was shaken up on the first offensive series of the game, and did not return after that first drive. Conor Blount replaced him and was fairly effective, finishing 12 of 19 for 169 yards and two scores. He gave way to junior college transfer Jack Colletto in the second half.
