Urban Meyer suspension: College football observers question Ohio State's decision

Ohio State issued its decision Wednesday, suspending Urban Meyer for the first three games of the season. OSU president Michael Drake cited Meyer’s failure “to take sufficient action” regarding domestic violence accusations against former assistant coach Zach Smith, and for not being “complete and accurate” in addressing the media about the issue.  Athletic director Gene Smith will also be suspended from Aug. 31 through Sept. 16. As details in the case emerged during the past month, some observers called for Meyer’s termination. The veteran coach’s supporters rallied on campus in his defense, and tens of thousands signed a petition urging the university to keep him.
