AUSTIN, Texas — The story that has rocked college football is ongoing in Columbus after Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith placed head coach Urban Meyer on paid administrative leave following allegations of him having knowledge of former wide receivers coach Zach Smith’s alleged domestic violence history against his now ex-wife, Courtney Smith. Brett McMurphy initially reported two incidents of domestic violence allegations against Smith through obtained police records, with one dating back to 2009 when Smith was a graduate assistant for Meyer at Florida, and the second from 2015 at Ohio State. The report prompted Smith’s firing from the Ohio State staff. Texas head coach Tom Herman spent three seasons as Meyer’s offensive coordinator at Ohio State, from 2012 through 2014, and worked alongside Smith on the Buckeyes’ offensive coaching staff.
