Asked during bowl prep for a young Ohio State player who stood out, they all singled out right tackle Thayer Munford. “I just think it’s an honor,” Munford said, when told of the words of his teammates. The 2017 season was about preparing Munford, the Massillon Washington grad who was a late addition to Ohio State’s 2017 recruiting class and ranked as the third-lowest recruit among the 21 freshmen in that group. The 2018 season may be about playing him. Only Dobbins, who started, and defensive end Chase Young and cornerback Jeffrey Okudah, both of whom worked into the rotation as backups, made bigger impacts among as freshmen than Munford last season.
