There aren’t four college football teams better than Alabama. There just aren’t. One thorough loss to an Auburn team playing better than anyone in America over the last month doesn’t change that fact. That said, the Crimson Tide has no chance to return to the College Football Playoff for the fourth straight year unless one of the following upsets occur on Championship Saturday. TCU beats Oklahoma in the Big 12 Championship Game. Or … Ohio State beats Wisconsin in the Big Ten Championship Game. The committee choosing Alabama over two-loss TCU should be a no-brainer. The same should hold for choosing Alabama over two-loss Ohio State, but nobody has gotten the benefit of the playoff doubt like the Buckeyes. Look at 2014, the inaugural year of the playoff.
