COLUMBUS, Ohio — Urban Meyer has been fairly adamant that freshman running back J.K. Dobbins will play for Ohio State this season. Dobbins got one step closer to that after the Buckeyes’ practice on Thursday. He’s the first member of the 2017 recruiting class to lose the black stripe from his helmet, signifying that he’s done enough since arriving on campus last January to be considered a full-fledged Buckeye. You lose your black stripe, that usually means you’ll play. You don’t lose it, a redshirt season is likely coming your way. Take this is further proof that Dobbins will have some kind of role this year, whether that’s on special teams or a real part of the offense at running back behind Mike Weber.
