They don’t officially become a member of the team until that stripe is removed, and that’s an honor that has to be earned. The Buckeyes signed 21 players in the 2017 recruiting class, including 20 freshmen and one third-year sophomore in cornerback Kendall Sheffield. Out of those 21, 10 enrolled early and Sheffield was the only one of that bunch to lose his black stripe in spring practice. On Friday, running back J.K. Dobbins from La Grange, Texas, became the first of the 20 freshmen to officially become a Buckeye when his black stripe was removed.
