Ohio State football ranked No. 2 in 2017 preseason coaches poll, four weeks before its season opener

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State earned the No. 2 ranking in the 2017 preseason edition of the Amway Coaches Poll. The Buckeyes trailed just Alabama for the top spot in the first poll of the year. OSU got five first-place votes to Alabama’s 49. Florida State, USC and Clemson round out the top five. But as we know by now, the preseason poll has to be taken with more than just a grain of salt. OSU opens its season on Aug. 31 at Indiana, four weeks after the release of the first poll. And a lot can change in four weeks. Just ask the Buckeyes in 2014 when Braxton Miller had to have a second shoulder surgery and was out for that season.
