The Buckeyes will be without reserve tight end A.J. Alexander for the entirety of the 2017 season, an Ohio State spokesperson confirmed to Buckeye Sports on Friday morning. Alexander suffered a non-football related knee injury in early June and has already undergone surgery. Alexander, a member of the 2015 recruiting class, redshirted his first year before catching four passes for 27 yards in 2016 as the primary backup to Marcus Baugh. The injury to Alexander could open the door for one of Ohio State’s three 2016 tight end signings to see the field the season. Jake Hausmann, Luke Farrell and Kierre Hawkins all redshirted their first year on campus in 2016. The news of Alexander’s injury was first reported by The Columbus Dispatch.
