COLUMBUS, Ohio — Kerry Coombs went down the list of Ohio State’s defensive backs and basically came to the conclusion that every single one could play this year. Kerry, they all can’t be good enough. He paused with genuine confusion. “Why? Why?” Coombs is a generally fiery person, but he added an extra layer of passion last week when discussing his plans for defensive back rotation. Before last season he told reporters he was going to employ a three-man rotation at cornerback and we didn’t believe him. Coombs hasn’t forgotten that. So when there’s a general lack of belief that Ohio State’s defensive back rotation could reach six or seven players this year, it’s just hard to digest.
