Mike Gesicki is coming back to Penn State for the 2017 season. And while it’s great that James Franklin & Co. will have their play-making tight end back in blue and white for another year, it illustrates a bigger point: that this explosive Nittany Lions offense is going to return almost entirely intact as the team defends its Big Ten championship. The Lions’ offensive turnaround was one of college football’s biggest stories this season, the driving force behind Penn State’s out-of-nowhere run to a conference championship while residing in the same division as goliaths Ohio State and Michigan. Next year, success won’t be unforeseen, but it might be replicated because that explosive unit was so incredibly young in 2016.
