Buckeye Football Notebook: 'Are you a winner or did your team lose?'


COLUMBUS — Roughly 18 months ago, Curtis Samuel was preparing to become Ohio State’s starting H-back. He had everything the Buckeyes wanted in the position. He was able to run between the tackles and line up in the slot with equal effectiveness. He could command a defense’s attention without ever even touching the football. But then Braxton Miller happened. Samuel still played, but his role was greatly diminished. He never once complained or spoke out about his role. Since last January, however, he was slated to be the Buckeyes’ top playmaker in 2016. He has responded brilliantly, redefining what the H-back position under Urban Meyer can be. And he still has a season of eligibility left if he wants it. As a junior this season he has rushed 91 times for 704 yards (7.6 avg) and eight touchdowns.
