Kate Amato, the 11-year-old Florida girl whom Ohio State coach Urban Meyer befriended during her fight with cancer, died Wednesday, according to several social media reports.From Jacksonville Beach, Fla., she had spent time at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus in recent months undergoing treatment accompanied by her mother. Her friendship with Meyer was the subject of a story in The Dispatch last week on Thanksgiving.
