COLUMBUS, Ohio — There was a chance for Ohio State to jump into the top four of the College Football Playoff rankings on Tuesday night, but the selection committee didn’t go there again. The Buckeyes are No. 5 in the new playoff rankings, behind No. 1 Alabama, No. 2 Clemson, No. 3 Michigan and No. 4 Washington. Ohio State was No. 6 last week, and moved up a spot after a 62-3 win over Nebraska. Last week we saw the selection committee put a one-loss Texas A&M in the fourth and final playoff spot ahead of an unbeaten Washington team. Then the Aggies lost. One of the interesting things to watch this week was if they would follow the same logic and put a team like the Buckeyes in that No. 4 spot this time around. That didn’t happen. The Big Ten has four teams in the top 10, with Wisconsin and Penn State joining Ohio State and Michigan. The SEC has three teams in the top 10 with Alabama, Texas A&M and Auburn.
