Joe Thomas Barrett IV has been a starter for Ohio State’s football team in each of the past two years. But he hasn’t been the starter until this season.In 2014, J.T. Barrett’s redshirt freshman season, he went into fall camp as the backup quarterback, stepping into the lead role after returning starter (and Heisman Trophy candidate) Braxton Miller suffered a season-ending shoulder injury before the first game. Barrett would go on to lead the Buckeyes to an 11-0 record before injuring his ankle against Michigan. Jones would famously come on and win that game, then lead the team to a National Championship, winning big-time college football’s first playoff, no less. The following season, with all three QBs returning but Miller moved to receiver, Jones earned the starting nod following months of media speculation and an intense camp competition. Barrett received playing time in every game, though, and with the offense sputtering even as the team piled up victories, Head Coach Urban Meyer named Barrett the starter heading into the team’s eighth game of the season.
