As a heavily recruited running back out of Detroit’s Cass Tech, Weber was caught between staying in-state at Michigan or going south to Ohio State. Once he settled on joining the Buckeyes, he quickly discovered he was joining a program with a loaded, but talented, backfield. Led by all-American Ezekiel Elliott, Ohio State racked up nearly 4,300 yards rushing last season. With Elliott having left early to chase his NFL dreams, that left a gaping hole in the OSU’s depth chart at running back, one head coach Urban Meyer said could be filled by the redshirt freshman. ”Right now, Mike and Curtis (Samuel) are the top two backs in the program, and they’re not Zeke level yet,” Meyer said at Ohio State’s Media Day. ”Curtis is pretty close even for a guy that doesn’t get as many reps at pass protection. ”But Mike’s pretty good.
