The Buckeye program accepted an offer to participates in the 2016 tournament, their ninth time in the second-tier tournament, as a No. 3 seed. The Buckeye’s men’s basketball team will face off against 6-seed Akron Zips at 7 pm Tuesday in Columbus Ohio State has won the NIT twice, most recently in 2008. Ohio State has a 10-2 home record in the NIT, including a 5-0 run in OSU head coach Thad Matta’s only appearance in the tournament. “We are excited about the opportunity to continue our season and appreciate the NIT committee for selecting Ohio State,” Thad Matta said in a news release. “We have a young team who will surely benefit from the additional practice and competition. We need our fans to come out and support this team Tuesday at Value City Arena.” Tickets will go on sale to the public at 1 pm Monday. Fans can click here to purchase tickets.
