It was the kind of game the Vols hadn’t won often enough in the past, the kind they couldn’t win in 1991 and 1993. Fitting that it was played in Florida, the site of UT’s ignominious season-altering defeat against the Gators. Fitting that it came against a Big Ten team. Penn State hammered UT’s ’91 and ’93 teams in bowls. It was too strong, too well-prepared, too motivated. And when Vols fans awoke to a rainy Monday morning and another Big Ten powerhouse, they might have had flashbacks to their worst bowl nightmares…
