With all the talk of quarterback Tony Romo’s time being limited due to his age and accumulation, the Dallas Cowboys will probably draft a quarterback, but not in the first round or someone’s who’s going to be ready start right off the bat. If the Cowboys draft a quarterback, it’s going to be in the second or third round and that guy is going to have to sit for a year or two depending upon Romo’s durability over the next couple of years. From an offensive standpoint, the immediate need with the fourth pick in the draft for the Cowboys is at the running back position. As well as Darren McFadden played last season, gaining over 1,000 yards rushing and averaging 4.6 yards per carry, he is not a long-term solution, especially given his history of injuries. Though he is 28-years-old, McFadden doesn’t necessarily have the explosiveness he once had coming out of Arkansas. Out all of the running backs coming out of the college ranks, the best bet for the Cowboys is Ohio State’s Ezekiel Elliott. The thing that makes Elliott stand out among some of the running backs in this year’s draft is his ability to make people miss. If Elliott is playing behind the Cowboys massive offensive line, you’re going to see a lot of long runs and you’re going to see a guy who can run through arm tackles. He has the ability to take over a game and carry a team the way former Cowboys and now Tennessee Titans running back DeMarco Murray did back in 2014. It was Elliott who powered the Buckeyes to the 2014 national championship by averaging over 200 yards rushing in the Big Ten Championship game and the two College Football Playoff games. In his last game as a collegiate player against Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl, Elliott gained 149 yards on 27 carried and scored four touchdowns…
