The first day of spring drills went well, but Ohio State football coach Urban Meyer knew that’s what was going to happen. “It’s easy. It’s fun. You just got beat up in the offseason program for 6-7 weeks, and I was expecting high energy,” he said. “That’s what we got.” Now comes the real test, moving forward and doing so without almost a dozen players the Buckeyes are counting on to be ready in the fall. Meyer said three of his top wide receivers are out with injury, and while freshman KJ Hill can do some drills, he can’t catch passes as he has a cast on his wrist. Two safeties are currently recuperating. Eric Smith is limited to conditioning work with his knee. Cam Burrows is battling a foot injury and will have to take it easy until at least the end of spring break. Perhaps the most significant injury is that of Tyquan Lewis, as the defensive lineman is out all spring having hurt his shoulder.
