TFF: Several highly-rated Buckeyes part of Friday’s media blitz

INDIANAPOLIS —Much like the ‘Silver Bullets’ swarmed opposing offenses during the 2015 season, several Ohio State defensive players swarmed the media as they finally had their turn to address the press. Among them for the Buckeyes was linebacker Darron Lee, a quarterback out of Albany, who fought long and hard to get a scholarship at OSU and morphed into the fleet, versatile type of linebacker the NFL now covets. “There’s a lot more to improve on everything. I’m just enjoying the process and getting prepared for Sunday (when he tests and runs drills with the linebackers),” he said. Lee’s Ohio Capital Conference rival Nick Vannett (Westerville Central) also fits the mold when it comes to a new kind of versatility and athleticism at the tight end position. In his conversations with teams and scouts, many of them felt he was under-utilized as a Buckeye. “I always smirk when I hear that, but we have so many threats at Ohio State and it’s kind of hard to spread the ball around to everyone of us,” he said. The other Central Ohio product in Friday’s field was linebacker and Olentangy alum Josh Perry, who has the skill and measurables for the NFL, although he felt disappointed at times by watching his game tape. “There were times that I should’ve been a better athlete on film, but then when you look at the guys around us, the guys playing around me, the guys playing in front of me, there are some pretty good athletes out there,” he said. Former OSU standout defensive end Noah Spence could’ve formed an elite pass rushing duo with the top-rated defensive lineman Joey Bosa, but was kicked out of the Big Ten after a pair of failed drug tests. Since, his dismissal two years ago, he went on to dominate the lower tier of the FBS at Eastern Kentucky. …
