Ohio State players jab outgoing DC Chris Ash over enthusiasm for Rutgers gig

Surely disappointed that they won’t be defending their College Football Playoff title, the Ohio State Buckeyes still have much work to do for their Fiesta Bowl showdown with Notre Dame on New Year’s Day. Outgoing defensive coordinator Chris Ash, who recently accepted the head coaching position at Rutgers, also of the Big Ten, will remain aboard with the Buckeyes as he juggles responsibilities. But on Thursday, Ash couldn’t temper his enthusiasm for the new gig, which drew some funny reactions from his soon-to-be former players, including, of course, Social Media All-Star QB Cardale Jones (referring to the Woody Hayes Athletic Center) “I guess it’s been a hot topic, but I wouldn’t do it any other way,” Ash said about continuing to coach Ohio State after accepting the Rutgers job. “I can’t say enough about what Coach (Urban) Meyer has done for me. Those players there have been unbelievable, and I would not feel right if I didn’t help them finish the job that I started.” Almost every football coach dreams of becoming a head coach one day and having the opportunity to pour his soul into shaping a team/program into a particular mold, ideally a successful one. Cardale Jones knows that: But it’s still fun to give the guy a hard time. LATEST FROM THE BUZZER [H/T SB Nation]
