As a Buckeye fan, this news leaves me scratching my head. According to an ESPN article by Andrea Adelson, Boise State has been charged with “lack of institutional control”. The charge of widespread rules violations led to the judgment of 3 years’ probation. Boise will have a reduction of football scholarships, for 2011 through 2014. The football violations occurred over a lengthy period of time, involving 63 student athletes.
Even Chris Peterson, the head football coach was very surprised and disappointed by the findings. My questions in all of this is are: How did Boise and the NCAA keep this from the media? How long was the investigative process on this? Why was the head football coach surprised? What are the facts regarding the 63 players, were they ever ineligible? If they were ineligible, why doesn’t Boise have to vacate their football wins?
It’s just funny to me that this story was published when so many questions go without answers. Just like when I was surprised when LSU was hit with scholarship reductions, and nobody seemed to know anything was even going on. I guess as an Ohio State fan, we just need to keep taking criticism, and watch other programs get quick decisions, without the media circus and Yahoo/SI stories.
I guess I should be happy about the recent news release that Jordan Hall, Travis Howard, and Corey Brown have all been re-instated. Thanks NCAA, we sincerely appreciate the laughable decisions you continue to make.
